Last week, we went on a little college v-v-visiting tour, all over Georgia.
The trip was sponsored by the Teen Success Club of the West Broad Street YMCA, which is headed up by Christopher Nunnery. The group meets Tuesdays, Fridays and every other Saturday. Members focus on culture, on identity, on finding passions and interests and finding places to put them into immediate use... why wait, anyway?
Teenagers are among the most energetic and valuable assets in our community. The Teen Success Club is helping them to find their places in our town--- and oh my, are we lucky to have them!
Ronald is 13 and wants to be a chef, we have enlisted him as sous-chef for the brand new BEAUTIFUL FOOD PROJECT Family Cooking Classes at the West Broad Street YMCA!
Visiting colleges last week opened a lot of doors in our brains about the next chapter. We visited Valdosta State, Albaby State, Georgia South Western, Morris Brown University and UGA.
Taking in the rich history of Morris Brown University, which is the first HBCU to be founded by an African American -- Mr. Morris Brown. The college housed offices for
James Weldon Johnson (Lift Every Voice and Sing) AND
W.E.B Debois (founder of the NAACP).
This is the Liberty Bridge, the funeral processions of civil rights leaders such as
Martin Lutner King and
Rosa Parks passed through here, which is incredible to think about.
Here we are chowing down at Georgia South Western... the universal winner for best food and nicest town!

A few years ago I took Color Theory with Cynthia Huff. She talked about how her job was to hold the door open for her students, because she could. And because people had done that for her.
That's what this trip was about for us-- holding the door open. And feeling someone run past you to get inside is probably the greatest thing.
